Supervision Unit

Supervision is to enhance the quality of instruction in schools, ensure effective teaching and learning takes place. Supervision is the back bone of Universal Basic Education Board for quality and desirable results as reflected in its mission and functions.

FUNCTIONS

The unit performs the following:
  • Supervision of schools termly to ensure good service delivery by teachers and headteachers and provide feedback to education secretaries and the Management of the Board on the need for changes and improvements.
  • Ensure improvement of teaching and learning in schools and assess the curriculum content and the lesson preparation.
  • The unit collects data at intervals about on-going projects and programmes within the school system.
  • Ensure school enrolment.
  • The unit brings about improvement in the quality of instructions i.e staff strength, advice and encourages staff.
  • The unit conduct teacher development programme, training/retraining as well as interactive sessions on vocations.
  • Ensure that attention is given to educators and new innovations are implemented, in schools according to policy objectives.
  • Ensure proper lesson planning and provision of local teaching aids are done by teaching staff.
  • Ensure C.A test records and exams are conducted as scheduled.
  • Ensure that new teachers receive training to enable them function effectively on the job and provide professional information to teachers who need it.
  • It determined whether teachers should be transferred, promoted, demoted, send for further training, suspended, retired or dismissed for negligence and Lack of productivity.
  • Suggesting ways of improving the performance of incompetent teachers and provide an opportunity to discover teachers with special abilities.
  • Appointment of local government education authorities’ zonal supervisors to ensure school-based community participation and ensure teachers do their assigned work effectively.

  • Ensure conducive learning atmosphere in schools.
